Duden Waterfalls are among Antalya’s most famous natural attractions, but the name refers to two different sites connected to the same water system. Upper Duden Waterfall in Kepez is known for its leafy park, caves and close-up viewpoints, while Lower Duden Waterfall in Lara plunges approximately 40 metres from the coastal cliffs directly into the Mediterranean Sea. Whether you are comparing Upper and Lower Duden Waterfalls, checking the entrance fee and opening hours, or planning a boat tour for the best sea-level view, this guide covers the essential information for your visit.

If you are checking the distance from Alanya to Duden Waterfalls, expect approximately 130–140 kilometres by road. The journey usually takes around two to two and a half hours, depending on traffic, your departure point and which waterfall you visit.
Upper and Lower Duden Waterfalls have different entrance arrangements and visiting hours.
Attraction | Entrance fee | Opening hours |
|---|---|---|
Upper Duden Waterfall | Paid; current tariff should be checked before visiting | Commonly listed as 09:00–19:30 in summer and 09:00–18:00 in winter |
Lower Duden Waterfall | Free from the public park | Open daily; best visited during daylight or around sunset |
Lower Duden boat view | Included in the selected tour price | Depends on the boat tour schedule |
The Upper Duden Waterfall entrance fee may change during the season, so a fixed price can quickly become outdated. Tickets are generally purchased at the entrance.
Lower Duden Waterfall does not require an entrance ticket when viewed from Duden Park. Parking, cafés and boat tours may charge separately. Seasonal schedules, maintenance and weather conditions can affect access, so checking current information on the day of your visit is recommended.
Duden Waterfalls, locally known as Düden Şelalesi, are among the most recognisable natural landmarks in Antalya. The attraction consists of Upper Duden Waterfall in Kepez and Lower Duden Waterfall on the Lara coastline. Although they offer completely different visitor experiences, both belong to the same water system.
The waterfalls are shaped by Antalya’s limestone and travertine landscape. Water travels through underground channels before emerging around Upper Duden Waterfall. It then continues through Antalya and eventually reaches the Mediterranean at Lower Duden Waterfall.
Upper Duden Waterfall is surrounded by a landscaped park with trees, walking paths, picnic areas and viewpoints. One of its most distinctive features is the cave-like passage that allows visitors to observe the water from behind and beside the cascade.
The shaded surroundings make Upper Duden Waterfall a refreshing stop during Antalya’s hot summer months. Some paths and cave sections can be damp or slippery, so comfortable shoes with good grip are recommended.
Upper Duden is a paid attraction and has seasonal closing hours. Visitors researching the Upper Duden Waterfall entrance fee or asking what time Duden Waterfall closes should check the latest tariff and schedule shortly before travelling.
Lower Duden Waterfall, also known as Karpuzkaldiran Waterfall or Duden Coastal Waterfall, is formed where the Duden River drops approximately 40 metres from Antalya’s cliffs into the Mediterranean Sea.
Duden Park provides free viewpoints from above the waterfall. The area also has walking paths, green spaces, cafés and places to sit beside the coast. Late afternoon is particularly popular for photography, although morning visits are generally quieter.
The most dramatic perspective is from the Mediterranean. An Antalya boat tour brings visitors closer to the waterfall’s base, where the scale of the cliffs, falling water and sea mist becomes much more impressive.
Duden Waterfalls are frequently described as a natural monument in general travel content. Legally, it is more accurate to describe the waterfall and river system as a protected natural site. Sections of the area have officially registered natural conservation status, but Duden Waterfalls should not be presented as a national park.
Their importance comes from their karstic water system, coastal landscape and unusual combination of an inland waterfall and a second cascade flowing directly into the sea.
Allow one to two hours for Upper Duden Waterfall and approximately 30–60 minutes for Lower Duden Waterfall when visiting from land. A boat tour requires additional time but provides the best view of Lower Duden Waterfall from the sea.
Travellers with limited time can prioritise Lower Duden Waterfall because it is closer to Lara and easy to combine with Antalya’s coastal attractions. Visitors looking for a greener and more relaxed nature walk may prefer Upper Duden Waterfall. For a complete itinerary, visit Upper Duden in the morning and continue to Lower Duden before sunset.
