Horse Riding in Antalya: What to Know Before Your First Trail Ride
Horse riding in Antalya: forest and beach rides in Lara, Side, Kemer and Alanya, with age and weight limits, what to wear and safety tips for beginners.
A trail ride is one of the gentlest adventures on the Antalya coast. You ride at a walking pace through pine forest, sometimes out onto the beach, with a guide leading the way. You do not need any experience: the stables along the coast are used to first-time riders, children and nervous beginners.
This guide compares where you can ride around Antalya, explains who can join and what to wear, and covers the things worth knowing before you book.
Where to Go Horse Riding Around Antalya
Area | Route | Time on horseback | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
Antalya (Lara) | Pine forest, then a stretch along Lara Beach | About 1 hour 20 minutes, within a 2-hour activity | Beach rides close to the city |
Side / Manavgat | Forest tracks, then along the shoreline | About 1 hour | A short ride from Side hotels |
Kemer | Pine forest and mountain paths in the Taurus foothills | About 1 hour (2 hours optional) | Mountain scenery and shade |
Alanya: Avsallar | Countryside trails around a farm | About 50 minutes | A quick first ride west of Alanya |

Antalya: Pine Forest and Lara Beach
Rides near Lara start at stables close to the beach. They typically spend about an hour on shaded forest tracks, then 20–25 minutes on the sand with the sea beside you. See the premium ride from pine forest to Lara Beach or the forest tracks to the coast ride. Both include hotel pickup.
Side: Forest and Shoreline
In Side, rides split roughly equally between soft forest tracks and a walk along the waterline. The Side horse riding tour collects from Side and Manavgat hotels, with departures through the day.
Kemer: Taurus Foothills
Kemer's rides head inland to a ranch in a green valley, following pine tracks and mountain paths rather than the beach. They are cooler and shadier on hot days, and experienced riders can ask for a faster pace where the terrain allows. See the Kemer pine forest trail ride.
Alanya: Avsallar or the Ride to Syedra
West of Alanya, the Avsallar trail ride is a short countryside ride of about 50 minutes and suits a first try. For something more memorable, the ride through pine forests to ancient Syedra spends about 2.5 hours in the Taurus foothills and stops at the ruins. Its operator says the horses are rescued animals.
Who Can Go Horse Riding?
No experience is needed. Every ride starts with a short safety briefing, and the guides match each rider with a horse that suits their experience. Most rides are at a calm walk.
Limits vary by stable, so check the page of the ride you book:
Minimum age: usually 3–6 years, depending on the operator. Children ride with an adult taking part, and young children are often led.
Maximum weight: usually 95 kg, or 110 kg at the Kemer ranch. This is for the horse's welfare, not a formality.
Not suitable for: pregnant travellers, or people with back, neck or heart problems. If in doubt, check with a doctor first.
What to Wear on a Horse Riding Tour
Long trousers, to stop the saddle and stirrup leathers rubbing your legs and to protect you from bushes on forest trails.
Closed-toe shoes with a flat or small heel. Sandals and flip-flops are not safe in stirrups.
A helmet: one is provided and fitted on all Maxtoria's rides.
Sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap, and water, especially for beach sections.
Nothing loose or dangling: leave scarves and long necklaces behind, and keep your phone in a zipped pocket.
What Happens on a Ride
Hotel pickup, at a time confirmed after booking. The listed start time is when the ride begins, not when the driver arrives.
Briefing and fitting: helmet, how to sit, stop and steer, usually 10–20 minutes.
The ride: in single file behind the guide, mostly at a walk.
Return transfer.
Total time vs riding time: a "2-hour" activity usually means about 1 to 1.5 hours in the saddle. The rest is the briefing and breaks.
Extras: photos are usually sold separately. Food and drinks are not included, although the Kemer ranch includes tea or coffee. On beach rides, swimming with the horse is not part of the standard ride.
Safety and Horse Welfare Tips
Tell the guide honestly how much you have ridden. It is how they choose your horse.
Stay in line behind the guide and do not overtake. Horses follow each other, and that keeps the group calm.
Look at the horses before you get on. Well-kept horses are alert, with a healthy coat and clean tack. If something looks wrong, you can decline to ride.
Choose cooler times in summer: mornings and late afternoons are better for you and for the horses.
Do not feed the horses without asking the guide.
Best Time for Horse Riding in Antalya
Rides run from spring to autumn, and some stables operate year-round. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons. In July and August, pick an early or late departure: the forest sections give shade, but beach sections in the midday sun are hot for riders and horses alike.
