Alanya Turkish Bath Ritual: Kese, Foam and Oil Massage

Alanya Turkish Bath: Two Slow Hours of Heat, Foam and Calm

From Your Hotel Door to the Marble Hall

A shuttle collects you from your hotel in the Alanya area and brings you to a hamam designed in the spirit of classic Ottoman bathhouses. The time you choose at booking marks the start of the ritual itself, so your pickup happens a little earlier and is confirmed once your reservation is in. After a short welcome you change into your swimsuit, wrap yourself in a cotton peshtemal and leave the noise of the day at the door.

Gentle Heat Before the Ritual

Your body is eased into the experience in two stages. First comes the dry warmth of the sauna, then the soft humid air of the steam room. Together they loosen tired muscles and open the pores, which makes the scrub that follows far more effective.

Kese Time on the Warm Navel Stone

Next you stretch out on the heated marble platform at the centre of the bath, known in Turkish as the göbek taşı. An attendant works over your skin with a coarse kese mitt and lifts away dead cells and sun-dulled layers. Many travellers book this early in their holiday because freshly scrubbed skin tends to take a more even tan.

A Cloud of Soap Then Fragrant Oil

Soap is whipped into a thick lather and spread over you in the traditional foam massage, a soothing wash that feels almost weightless. The package then moves to a massage table for a 20-minute oil massage that works through the shoulders, back and legs at an easy pace.

Unwinding Before the Ride Back

Once the treatments are over you have time to rinse off, cool down and rest in the lounge before changing. The listed finishing time refers to the end of the ritual, and the drive back to your hotel follows after that. Arrival at your hotel depends on traffic and on where you are staying.

What This Standard Package Covers

This listing is the standard hamam package: sauna, steam room, kese scrub, foam massage and a 20-minute oil massage with round-trip transfer. Longer massages, face masks, salt or coffee scrubs and other extras may be offered at the venue. They are entirely optional and paid separately, so feel free to decline anything you did not plan for. Please bring a swimsuit, avoid a heavy meal just beforehand and let staff know about any health concerns before the treatments begin.
