Alanya Turkish Bath Classic Program: Sauna and Massage

Alanya Turkish Bath Classic Program: Ninety Minutes of Traditional Hammam Care

Some holiday memories are made on boats and mountain roads. This one is made on a slab of warm marble. The classic program follows the order a Turkish bath has kept for centuries: heat first, then a thorough scrub, then soap foam and finally a massage that lets the whole body settle. The session lasts about 90 minutes at the bathhouse and the round-trip transfer from your hotel is part of the booking.

Heat That Opens the Way

Once you have slipped into a peshtemal and slippers, the ritual starts in the dry sauna, where the warmth loosens tight shoulders and legs. A short spell in the humid steam room follows. The moisture softens the skin so the next stage can do its work properly, so take your time here and sip water whenever you need it.

Scrubbed Clean on Warm Marble

In the hammam hall you lie on the heated central stone while an attendant works over your body with a kese, the coarse mitt Turkish baths have used for generations. Layers of dead skin roll away and many guests notice how smooth their arms feel within minutes. The scrub is thorough, so simply tell the attendant if you would like a lighter touch.

Buried in Soft Soap Foam

Next comes the moment people replay in their minds long after the trip. A cloth bag is filled with soapy water and billowed above you until you disappear under thick, warm foam. The attendant massages through the lather with long, gentle strokes and then rinses you off with bowls of warm water.

Twenty Minutes of Unhurried Hands

The program closes with a 20-minute classic oil massage given by a trained therapist. It concentrates on the back, neck and legs, the places that carry the tiredness of flights, sightseeing and sunbathing. Longer or specialised massages can be added at the spa for an extra charge if you would like to stay a little longer.

A Quiet Pause Before the Road

When the treatments are over you have a few minutes to rest, shower and dress at your own pace. Many travellers book the hammam early in their stay because freshly exfoliated skin tends to tan more evenly under the Mediterranean sun.
