You leave the coast behind and climb into the Taurus Mountains toward Köprülü Canyon where four separate adrenaline activities are stacked back to back. The day opens with an off-road Jeep run through pine forest and broken canyon tracks. The convoy hammers across stone beds and shallow water crossings so grab the roll bar and hang on. Water fights between vehicles are part of the routine which means most people reach the next stop already soaked.
Next you take the wheel of a buggy and push it around a dirt circuit in the foothills. The track throws mud, dust and standing water at you in roughly equal measure. No previous driving experience is needed and instructors brief the whole group before anyone starts an engine.
The centrepiece is a long descent of the Köprüçay River inside Köprülü Canyon National Park. Rafts carry small teams under a licensed guide who calls the paddle commands through every rapid. Fast technical sections alternate with calm pools where you can jump out and swim in meltwater straight off the Taurus peaks. Non-swimmers take part regularly because the buoyancy vest and helmet do the work.
Once the boats are beached you clip into a steel line strung roughly 600 metres above the gorge. The launch is short, sharp and loud, and the view down the canyon is the best you will get all day. Instructors handle the harness checks and the landing so your only job is to let go of the platform.
A hot lunch is served at the base camp beside the river between the driving and the water. It is a working canteen rather than a restaurant but the portions are generous and there is shade and somewhere to dry off. Drinks are bought separately.
